Classic Survival SMP With No Teleports
PeaMC is a survival SMP that tries to feel like classic Minecraft again. You do not get teleports and there are no land claims. It is meant for surviving traveling building and meeting people the normal way.
It is whitelist only so it is harder for trolls to get in. The community is chill and the owner and mods are active in Minecraft and Discord.
The server supports crossplay for Java and Bedrock from 1.7x to 1.21.11. You can form teams and invite friends. PvP is allowed but griefing stealing from bases killing pets and spawn killing are not allowed.
New players get PvP disabled for one day so you do not get farmed right away and it can be turned off. Destructive PvP like TNT beds respawn anchors end crystals and minecart PvP is not allowed since it can wreck builds. Maces are banned too. I found a modded server that runs on All the Mods 10 ATM10 version 5.5 and the whole vibe is nations. You can make your own nation and pick how it is run with your own government laws and ranks.
If you do not want to start from zero you can join a nation that already exists. To get in you join the Discord and ask to be whitelisted then staff helps you get started and gives you a beginner kit.

I found a semi vanilla SMP server that is all about survival with a strong community vibe and lots of building and trading.
It uses a diamond based economy so players trade with diamonds and run their own shops. There is also a shops GUI so it feels easy to browse what people are selling.
You can protect your builds with land claiming using golden shovels. The server is PvE focused with no griefing and it does not use keep inv.
It supports Java and Bedrock crossplay so more friends can join. There is a live world map you can look at in your browser and separate resource worlds so the main world stays cleaner.

Foggy Willows is a server I found that is going for real vanilla survival. It runs on the normal minecraft server jar with no plugins and no datapacks so it plays like the game is supposed to.
The spawn is not some huge confusing hub. You just get in and play. It is hard mode and there is no tp or sethome so travel matters and you have to plan stuff.
People are expected to handle their own social problems. You can play how you want and build what you want. Technical players are welcome too.
