Goblin SMP is a simple vanilla survival server that is made for long term play. It feels active and the whole point is to keep things fair so people can stick around.
The world border is huge at 500000 by 500000 and it expands every month with new land. You can build and explore or trade with other players and even form alliances if you want.

I found a survival SMP that is about 2 weeks old and it has a small active group with around 6 to 9 people on. It started after the old world ran for more than 3 years so everyone decided to restart fresh.
It is vanilla plus on fabric and you can still join with a normal vanilla client. The server has extra stuff that mostly helps gameplay like faster leaf decay terralith world generation dynmap claims mini blocks and heads gravestones and backups. There is also proximity voice chat but you need a mod if you want to use that.

This server is a semi anarchy survival world that tries to stay very close to vanilla. It has very few changes so it still feels like normal Minecraft.
It has been running since October 11th 2024 and it is hosted in New York City in the USA. The server is online all the time.
You can play on Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.11 and they recommend 1.21.10. The world border is huge at 2 million blocks which makes the map feel endless and there are no map resets.
There is no pay to win and there is no teleporting. Griefing and PvP are allowed so you should be ready for danger. The only command they allow is spawn so players far away can get back toward civilization.
