NerdNu is a medium sized Minecraft community that aims for mostly vanilla gameplay and that old school multiplayer feeling. It is one of the oldest public servers and it pushes a strong sense of belonging.
The PvE server is updated to 1.21.10 and it is survival with no player versus player. You build your towns and cities and you mainly worry about mobs. The PvE map reset on September 19th and they also run Friday and Saturday game nights with player hosted events like spleef and thimble style games plus ice boat races.
The Creative server is a mostly open world creative map with a mix of natural generation and world painted terrain. You can protect your builds and WorldEdit is free to use. Creative also has community events like spleef and speed build on alternating Saturdays and it is running on 1.21.8 with Revision 38 starting June 22 2024.
Their snapshot server is currently closed because of recent updates and they plan to announce when it reopens.

There are custom items and they even have furniture. It is entity based so they plan to limit furniture per chunk to help with lag. The world uses Tectonic generation so the terrain looks big and realistic with mountains and valleys.
