The main thing here is the Tier system for PvP. You can gain Tiers by killing players and you lose Tiers when you die so every fight feels risky
There is proximity voice chat so people can talk during trades and deals and threats. There are no land claims so the world is shaped by trust and politics instead of plugins

Ordinary SMP is a vanilla survival server on Java that stays up to date and is currently on 1.21.11. It feels like a smaller tight group where people actually talk and build together.
The server is whitelisted so they try to keep the player base respectful and chill. They also use Ledger to track activity so if someone griefs or steals they can investigate and help keep builds safer.
There is a BlueMap live map so you can see the world and find places easier. There is Simple VoiceChat for talking in game and an AudioPlayer for custom audio.

The Tavern SMP is a near vanilla survival server on version 1.21.11. It feels like normal Minecraft but with some quality of life and cosmetic plugins to make stuff smoother.
It runs on a greylist so anyone can join. You just link your discord account in game and it is automated so there is no long whitelist wait.
Players use a nether roof travel hub and there is no world border so far. TNT dupers are allowed and redstone contraptions are fine as long as they do not cause noticeable lag.
The server does not do forced resets. World changes and resets only happen if the community votes for it. There are occasional community projects and events and the overall vibe is laid back and relaxed.
It also has proximity voice chat plus a live web map and a statistics site. Extra fun features include mob head drops from charged creepers plus invisible item frames using shears and moveable armor stands by naming a book to statues. This server is all about lifesteal anarchy style survival where pvp actually matters. If you kill someone you gain hearts and if you die you lose hearts. When you run out you get banned so fights feel scary. New players get a one hour grace period so you can learn first.
It uses a bunch of custom plugins to keep things moving. You can set a home and teleport to it. You can also send teleport requests to other players. Night can be vote skipped by typing a command.
PvP has a battle lock so you cannot spam commands while fighting and combat logging gets punished. If you log out in a fight you get replaced by a killable NPC that drops your stuff when killed. There is also some anti speed cheat protection and basic chat spam control.

Luminary Falls is a cozy survival SMP made for adults who want a long term place to play. It feels like classic Minecraft but it also has quality of life plugins and datapacks that help without ruining the vanilla vibe.
This is a whitelist only 18 plus server with a welcoming community. People are from all over and there are players online at all hours. It runs on Java and it also has full Bedrock crossplay.
They allow client mods that do not give unfair advantages like Litematica Xaeros Sodium and Dynamic Lights. There are resource worlds so the main world does not need to reset and your builds can stay for years. The staff has a lot of server management experience and they keep it uplifting and LGBTQ plus friendly.
