I found this server called KiaTEC and it is a semi vanilla survival world that is still pretty new. The world is only a few weeks old so it does not feel all used up. It is for people who just want to build explore and hang out without drama.
The server runs Java 1.21.1 and it has real survival with no pay to win. Everyone mostly uses Simple Voice Chat so people actually talk and chill together. There is a main vanilla SMP hub and they are working on a dungeon server but that part is not done yet.
They added some light quality of life stuff like random teleport so you can find a new place to start and tpa so you can travel to your friends. Spawn is protected so nobody can break it and they plan to turn it into a real lobby later.

They are also looking for moderators who are mature and active and want to help the server grow from the ground up. The whole vibe is chill survival with a friendly no drama community that wants more active people to join.

This server is called MineRealm and it is one of the longest running SMP servers I have seen. It has been online since 2010 and more than two hundred thousand players have joined over the years. The world is smaller at first and slowly expands so new land always uses the latest Minecraft version.
The gameplay is focused on survival and is fully legit. There is no pay to win and no item spawning. Everything you see was gathered and built by players. There are no fancy spawned in hubs or prefab structures so the whole world feels really player made.
MineRealm uses a classic plot system and grief protection so your builds stay safe. They have their own protection plugin and also use CoreProtect so griefing is not really a thing here. The server tries to stay close to vanilla but adds a few custom plugins to make community stuff and long term survival feel better.
Another cool thing is they do not reset the world. So if you build something big it will stay there for the long run. There is also public infrastructure already developed to help new and old players travel and grow.

Anarchy Network is a semi anarchy Minecraft server that tries to keep the game close to vanilla. It launched on October 11th 2024 and runs on a host in New York City.
The gameplay is simple survival with very few rules. Griefing is allowed and pvp is allowed so you always have to watch your back. There is no pay to win and there are no map resets so your builds and bases can last as long as you can protect them.
You can join on most Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 but the server recommends you use 1.21.10 so you do not have issues. The world border is set to 2 million blocks so there is a ton of space to explore.
The server has almost no commands. There is no normal teleporting but you can use spawn so players far away are not totally alone. Nether roof access is allowed and phantoms are removed and only half the players online are needed to skip the night.
There are a few basic rules so the server does not get ruined. Exploits are not allowed and lag machines and dupes are not allowed. Spamming and harassment and racial slurs in chat are also not allowed. Besides that the world is pretty much open and players can do what they want.
