I found this server that feels like the old prison days. It is not an OP prison so you do not start out super strong. You begin with basic tools and leather armor and you actually have to grind to get better gear.
You rank up by mining and doing the classic prison grind. The ranks go from A all the way up to Citizen and you can prestige for special rewards when you hit the top rank. You have to smelt your ores and then walk through pvp zones to sell them in the commissary so it feels risky and intense.
There are guards that protect new players and also enforce contraband rules. Swords and potions are illegal so if a guard sees you with them they will fight you. You can even get sent to solitary confinement by a guard if you have bad conduct.
There are some cool extra ways to make money like custom fishing and growing special illegal plants in your cell. You can rent a prison cell or a plot to store items build stuff grow illegal crops or make your own shop. There are quests for extra cash or special items and a bounty system if you want to put a price on someone and hunt players.
The server also has an auction house and parkour challenges around the prison. It is very focused on grinding pvp and that classic community prison feel where you actually have to work to reach parole and finally become a citizen.

Chilltown is a survival SMP that feels really calm and relaxed. It has been running since 2019 so the world feels super lived in with player towns farms and big projects everywhere. The server is focused on survival at your own pace and it aims for a true vanilla style without chaos.
The community is mostly adults and people are respectful so it is a good place if you want a chill group instead of drama. It is also nice if you are tired of pay to win stuff or servers that reset all the time.
The world is not just random terrain. It is a custom world that looks really good and it also has seasons that change how everything looks. There are custom mobs weapons tools and enchants but they are balanced and not totally overpowered. You can claim land using a simple chunk based system so your builds stay safe.
New players get a starter kit and daily rewards so it is easier to get going. There is also an optional tutorial that helps you settle in even if you want to play mostly solo. The server runs on Java 1.21.11 which is the latest version.

Sparked SMP is a long term survival world that feels like you just joined a friends server. It is simple on purpose and it feels really close to vanilla. There are no giant menus or spammy messages. There are no warps and no land claims and only a few quality of life things.
The server uses Fabric and is on 1.21.11. It has some small datapacks like extra mob heads and armor stands you can pose and proximity voice chat. There is bluemap and some protection mods under the hood so your builds are safe if something bad happens. Nothing really changes the normal vanilla gameplay.
The community is the main focus. It is mostly adults and feels pretty mature and relaxed. People build and play kind of like Hermitcraft but everyone still keeps their own style. The admins are active and they stay involved with players. They are open about server costs specs and bans so it feels transparent and honest.

This server is called 5tarRock and it feels like a tough semi vanilla world that is trying to be pretty realistic.
They have been working on it for about four months and the whole map is custom. The ore generation is different and the combat is changed too. There is even a climate system and more stuff that makes the world feel serious.
The server does not just give you free stuff. You actually have to work for everything. Auto farms are disabled so you can not just afk and win. It is made for players who like grinding and slow progress.

I found this SMP that is made for people who are tired of boring servers. The owner got sick of worlds that die in a week and decided to make something different.
On this server you can play how you want. If you just want to chill build farms and vibe you can do that and people will leave you alone. If you want to sweat do PvP start conflict or act like it is factions that is also totally fine.
There is no extra grind added just to waste your time. There is no fake cozy roleplay stuff and the staff are not trying to control every move you make. The rules are simple because everyone is expected to act like normal people without a huge rule book.
The whole idea is to keep the world going for a long time so it does not die after the first week. Different playstyles can exist together. Some people can relax while others fight and push hard and both ways of playing still fit on the server.
