When you vote you get free crates and every perk on the server is earnable so nothing is locked behind paying real money.
They also have a vanilla world that is very close to pure Minecraft. It has no extra mechanics and it still has random teleport so you can explore easily.
The owners pay for the server out of their own pocket and they do not expect players to buy anything to have fun. If you want a modern survival server that stays fair and does not go crazy with features this one fits that style. It runs on version 1.21.
