VanillaSMP is a survival server that has been running for over a year and it feels like a world that keeps growing every day.
The server is all about exploration and creativity and durability. You can explore crazy cinematics and many custom structures like huge villages and a lot of surprises across different dimensions.
The coolest part is the player driven lore. Players build kingdoms and write the history of the server. People make stories about old relics and kings and they honor them or go their own way. The lore keeps changing because the players keep changing it.
The server is also create enhanced so you can set up factories and build up kingdoms and really change how you play. You get to decide how you want your game style to feel.
There are big plans for the end of 2025 and the start of 2026 with events and creative challenges and other surprises to keep people busy and entertained.
The community is based on love friendship commitment and kindness. They really care about Minecraft and about each other and it feels like a place where anyone can join and maybe make long lasting friends.

Pixel Springs is a cozy modded SMP that feels like a long term home. The world is meant to last so players can settle down and keep their builds without constant resets.
The server is all about building collecting and relaxing survival. There are tons of builder friendly mods and a big focus on decorating. There are also many farming mods and you can earn in game currency for completing meals. Collectors can follow a custom FTB Quests system to chase items and rewards.
If you like magic there are mods like Botania Hexerei Mystical Agriculture and Ars Noveau. If you like animals there are extra creatures and pets from several mods so you can find a cute companion.
Pixel Springs has in game currency daily rewards and a shopping district where players can make their own shops or markets. There is a separate resource world that resets sometimes so the main world can stay nice while people still gather materials.
The community is small friendly and growing. The server started around three months ago so you can still join pretty early. The admin team is active and keeps backups so the world stays safe and they keep working to improve the server.

Hardcore SMP is a hardcore survival multiplayer server where you really have to think before you move. It is made for both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition so more people can play together.
The world does not reset and the server is non pay to win. There are no teleport commands to other players. You only get randomtp once plus home and spawn. That is it so traveling and exploring still feel real.
The economy is all about players. Coins come from killing mobs and looting chests. There are no normal item shops owned by the server. Instead players trade with each other using a trading system and an auction house so everything feels earned.
There is a big land claiming system. You can claim land for your base and farms so other players cannot grief your stuff. You can add trusted players to your claim so they can build with you. But if you die your claims get deleted and your land is not protected anymore so every death is a huge deal.
The only rank on the store is VIP and it is cosmetic only. It does not give gameplay advantages. There is also a revive that basically respawns you at spawn in survival again just like starting over on a new account.
If you want a hardcore world with no pay to win and almost vanilla rules but still some multiplayer features this server feels like a good place to try.

Sunset Retreat SMP is a chill survival server that feels like a calm place after a long day. It is made for players who are 18 or older and want a relaxed vanilla style world with just a few extra quality of life features.
The server plays like normal Minecraft but with some smart vanilla plus tweaks. There is Voice Chat so people can talk while they play. There are mob and player heads so you can collect cool trophies. There is a live map so you can see the world while you explore. It also works with Bedrock players and it uses a diamond based economy.
Players can set up their own shops and run the economy themselves. That means you can buy and sell items and services using diamonds. It feels like a small town where everyone knows who sells what.

Aurora SMP is a small survival server that is all about building a community and sometimes having big wars.
The server is starting fresh with Season 1 on December 15 so everyone begins at the same time. It is a fabric 1.20.1 Java server with some quality of life mods and a dynmap plugin.
From what I can tell the main idea is to make friends build alliances and show off your building skills. The vibe is pretty laid back but there is still room for big conflicts between groups.
If you want to join early and help shape a new community Aurora SMP seems like a good place to start.
