The server uses a handmade custom world and it adds limits to make the game harder and slower. You are not meant to win by exploits or heavy automation. People get ahead by fighting well making deals building cities and fortresses and getting other players to team up.
Travel matters a lot since there is no teleportation. Players end up making roads waystations and even secret underground railways. Some crops and saplings only work in certain biomes so trading becomes important and different areas start to feel unique.
It does not force you into strict lore. You can play how you want and let stories happen naturally as more players show up. Night cannot be skipped and health only comes back slowly and under certain conditions.
