The Pen is a classic prison server that feels like the older grindy style where you start with basic tools and leather armor and you work your way up. It is not one of those easy instant rich servers so you actually have to mine and smelt your ores and then take the risk of walking through PvP areas to sell at the Commissary.
The server leans into roleplay with Guards who help new players and also enforce contraband. Swords and potions are illegal and if a Guard catches you holding them they will fight you. If you act up you can even get sent to solitary confinement.
Ranking up goes from A through H then Parolee then Citizen. Once you hit the top you can prestige for special rewards. There are quests for extra cash or special items plus custom fishing and parkour challenges around the prison.
Making money is not just mining either. You can rent a cell or a plot to store stuff build and make your own shop. You can also grow special custom plants that are illegal in the prison for profit but you have to hide it from the Guards. If you have beef with someone you can put bounties on players and go claim ones you see on the board.
