Ballistic SMP is a semi faction style Minecraft server that is built around combat and lore. The whole idea is that there are four special weapons and each one has its own abilities and its own story. There is also a unique armor set that is connected to those weapons and to the lore.
The server is trying really hard to be fair. They say there is no pay to win and they want a cheater free environment. It is meant to be a well run server that feels unique and not like every other copy paste SMP.
Right now the world is a 3k by 3k map and that might change later. There will be admin run events so players have stuff to do besides just grinding. Because the server is not open yet everyone who joins at the start will be on the same level and nobody will be super stacked already.
There is no set way you have to play. You can follow the lore and get into the story of the weapons and armor or you can just build the biggest army you can and try to rule the map. They are looking for about ten more players to start the SMP so it should feel like a tight small community.

This is a community centered Java server that is made by the players for the players. It is going for a Hermitcraft style survival world that keeps the vanilla feeling.
There is a diamond based economy with a shopping district plus public builds and big community projects. A lot of people use proximity chat so it feels more social when you run into someone.
The server has homes and some cosmetic and quality of life stuff. New plugins can get added from community requests and polls. It is whitelisted and it is 18 plus only.

The world border is huge at 500000 by 500000. It also expands every month so new land keeps opening up.
The server is player driven. People can build big projects trade with others or team up and form alliances.

I found a new Towny server called GamerHub Towny and it feels really chill. It was first made for streaming but now it is trying to grow into a bigger community.
The server says there are no resets. Griefing and stealing are not allowed so it is more about building and hanging out. People there are welcoming and they help new players.
It has ingame ranks you can earn with ingame money. It also has a dynmap plus player warps and player shops. There is a sell only server shop too.
You can do jobs and use MCMMO. The server usually has a few players but it gets way more active during Twitch streams with 10 or more online sometimes.

ArcticMC is a new SMP survival server that mixes Towny and factions. You can build a town and claim land then team up with allies or try to take control of your own area.
PVP matters here but they also run an honor system. The rules explain how it works so fights do not turn into total chaos.
It also has McMMO skills so you level up while you play and unlock special abilities as you progress. The world uses Tectonic generation so the terrain looks more realistic with big mountains and valleys.
