AwakenMC is opening a new Candy Realm and it is in beta this December. It is on both Java and Bedrock so lots of people can join.
The server runs fun weekly events so there is always something to do. There are multiple realms that are meant to be enjoyable and not super sweaty.
The community is friendly and feels welcoming. People seem to care about having a nice place to play together and hang out.

NerdNu feels like one of those old Minecraft servers you remember from way back where people actually talk and build together. It is mostly vanilla and has a strong focus on community so it is not about crazy plugins and pay to win stuff. It is about surviving and building cool things with other players.
There is a PvE world where players use survival mode and only fight mobs and not each other. People team up to make towns and cities and they do regular events. They run a Friday and Saturday games night with things like spleef thimble and ice boat races. They also do special events like a bow game at an abandoned archery range.
There is also a Creative server that is mostly open world with a mix of natural and custom painted terrain. You can protect your builds and you can use WorldEdit if you want. The Creative world has its own events like Spleef and Speed Build on alternating Saturdays. It even has a vehicle plugin so you can zoom around in different vehicles.
The server keeps things updated and does map resets like the recent PvE map reset and a new Creative revision that started in June 2024. They also run seasonal events such as a Christmas Speedbuild and a Creative Christmas Group Build for holiday and winter themes.
If you want a medium sized server with mostly vanilla gameplay and a solid community where people care about events and shared projects NerdNu really fits that style.

This server feels like a big friend group that decided to make their own world. It is a Java only whitelisted server so the people who join actually want to be there and play together.
The main thing is SimpleVoiceChat so players talk with proximity chat while they build mine and explore. It makes random meetups way more fun because you can just walk up and say hi instead of typing.
There is an economy using Jobs. You can chop trees or mine ores and earn money then unlock cosmetics and commands. It still feels pretty close to normal survival but with some extra stuff to work toward.
The server has a Bluemap so you can see the world map from a website. Everyone also gets a one time random teleport so you can start out in a fresh area if you want.
Your items are protected with Block Locker and if something bad happens the admins use CoreProtect to roll back and fix grief or theft. The server gets regular updates based on what the community suggests and votes for.
It usually has a handful of people online throughout the day with a larger community hanging around. The vibe is chill and community centered and the whole thing is made by the players for the players.

Cozyvale is a brand new 18 plus vanilla server that feels really relaxed and friendly. It is run by a small group of friends and they want more adults to join them for a cozy survival world.
The server is basically vanilla but it has a few quality of life tweaks. Sleep only needs half the players. Leaves disappear faster. There is a simple voice mod and a dynmap. You can re dye dyed blocks. Players and mobs can drop heads. There is cauldron concrete and mob grief is reduced.
There are also some rules about play style. There are no teleports. There are no land claims. There is no pay to win at all. It is just survival and trust based gameplay with people who want a calm time.
They are also looking for builders to help shape spawn the shopping district and other big areas. If you like building and want a builder role this server really wants you.

This server is a calm towny style SMP where people just want to chill and talk while they play. It feels like a peaceful place where you can build a town and relax without a lot of stress.
They also use Slimefun so there are a ton of custom machines. You can automate tools and materials and all kinds of loot. It looks really fun if you like messing with machines and tech stuff in Minecraft.

EarthPol is a geopolitical Minecraft server on a 1 to 326 scale map of Earth. The terrain and borders feel really close to the real world and it uses vanilla style caves.
The server mixes survival and strategy with Towny nations. Players can build towns join nations pay taxes and deal with diplomacy and different kinds of governance. Wars are important too and there is a custom version of SiegeWar so fights are more about strategy.
