Aurora SMP is a small survival server that is all about building a community and sometimes having big wars.
The server is starting fresh with Season 1 on December 15 so everyone begins at the same time. It is a fabric 1.20.1 Java server with some quality of life mods and a dynmap plugin.
From what I can tell the main idea is to make friends build alliances and show off your building skills. The vibe is pretty laid back but there is still room for big conflicts between groups.

This is a Java server that is hosted in the UK and is always online so it is really good for players in the UK and Europe. The server is 16 plus and a lot of the regular players are over 21. It feels like an older chill community that just likes to hang out and play Minecraft for a long time.
The world is all about big themed areas. There are six main themes right now. There is Aztecia with an ancient style like Aztec and Egypt. There is Greenland which is all underground. There is Extora which is a mix of sci fi and magic. There is Latvia which is a medieval theme. There is a Modern area with skyscrapers and city builds. There is also an Asian area with temple style builds.
There are around twenty to twenty five active players and they usually just relax and build huge immersive places. There are no land claims. There is no griefing allowed. There is no PVP. The world is not planned to reset so builds can stay for a really long time.
The server has a few gamerule changes and plugins but they try to keep a vanilla feeling. There is no tp and no home commands. Voice chat mod is required to join so people can talk while they play. If this kind of long term themed world with older players sounds fun then this server is made for you.

This is a wild survival server where there are no rules and no map resets. The world has been running since April 26 2021 so it is really old and full of history and ruined bases.
On this server griefing is normal. People build bases just to see if they can hide them. Other players search for them and blow them up. Cheating is allowed too so you never really know what the other guy has.
It runs mainly on version 1.21 and also lets people join from 1.17 up to 1.21.10 so lots of different clients can play. Thousands of players have joined at least once so there are tons of old paths and random builds scattered around.
If you want a calm friendly place this is probably not it. If you like pure chaos and you do not care about rules then this server fits that style.

Mysterra is a Minecraft kingdom server that feels like a story that never stops. The world feels quiet like it is waiting for someone to open the next door and start the next chapter.

Dawnworks is a Minecraft geopol server that plays like anarchy but with a few limits to keep it fair and not laggy.
From what I see the only rules are to not use hacks and to not do stuff that kills the server with lag. Besides that people can pretty much do what they want.
You can skirmish in towns steal from other players and burn forests if you feel like it. You can make your own kingdom with friends or run around as a bandit warlord with your own little group.
It looks like a place where players create their own story and borders and wars instead of following quests. If you like chaos fights and building power on your own this server fits that style.

H1S Realm is a vanilla style Java SMP that feels really chill but also kind of spooky in a fun way. It is a trust based server so people are expected to be honest and not ruin stuff.
The world is pretty new and only about one and a half months old. There is a server story that drops from time to time so it is not just plain survival. There is a lot of lore about Him and something called The Dystbrinist but you have to join to see what that means.
The community is small and tight knit and it is still growing. The rules are not super strict and you can do most things you want as long as you are not just causing trouble. There is a minimum age of 15 years old so the players are a bit older.
The server is whitelist only so you have to apply first and answer honestly. There is Simple Voice Chat and a few Vanilla Tweaks so it still feels very close to normal Minecraft. There is no teleport and no warp plugins so traveling is all done the regular way.
They say there are no plans to reset the world so you can build long term stuff. The server uses CoreProtect so griefing can be rolled back and your builds are safer. There is also a custom Herobrine from The Fog and some scripts but he is non destructive so he just adds creepy fun instead of blowing everything up.
