I found this server called Anarchy Network and it is a semi anarchy world that tries to feel like normal vanilla Minecraft but with barely any rules.
The server started on October 11th 2024 and it runs all the time. You can join with almost any Java version from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 but they say 1.21.10 is best so you do not have issues.
The world is huge with a border at 2 million blocks so people can go really far out. There are no map resets and no teleporting at all and no pay to win stuff. Griefing and PvP are totally allowed so you always have to watch your back.
The only extra command they let you use is spawn so people who went really far away are not stuck alone forever. Nether roof travel is allowed and phantoms are turned off and only half the online players are needed to skip the night which makes survival less annoying.
They do have some rules. You cannot use exploits or lag machines or duping. You also cannot spam chat or use harassment or racial slurs. So it is still a wild server but they try to keep it from getting totally ruined.
Overall it feels like a raw survival world where the players control almost everything and the staff only step in when someone is breaking the game or being super toxic.

This server is called Exodus and it is a semi vanilla survival server that is all about geopolitics. It started about two months ago and it is more focused on geopol stuff than roleplay. You can make nations fight wars and make deals and all that.
If you are not good at pvp it is still fine. You can just build or do politics or whatever you like. The server is made for different kinds of players. There is a world border of 5000 by 5000 so the map is not huge. Because of that resources are limited so people have to trade instead of grabbing everything alone.
There are some clear rules. No griefing and no duping and no using x ray. The End and the Nether are closed so everyone has to stay in the overworld. Farms have to be hidden so you cannot just make giant laggy farms everywhere. There are also rules that are made to improve pvp so fights are more fair and fun.
Overall it feels like a mix of survival and political strategy. Everyone has to live close because of the world border so it makes more player interaction and trade and conflict.

This server is a survival RPG world that is still being built and tested. It feels like you join super early and get to see everything grow over time.
There is RPG style survival using MMOCore and you start with only a basic class right now. Stuff is being rebalanced after early gameplay so things can change a lot.
Towny is used for land ownership so you can make your own settlements and towns. Trade is meant to be a big part of the server so players will deal with each other a lot.
The mobs are custom and they get stronger the farther you go from spawn. There is a full starter city already made and it will keep changing and getting bigger.
The server is not finished on purpose. It is an active evolving project by one person who really wants ideas and feedback from players.
Rules are pretty simple. Anything goes except racial physical or threatening abuse which has zero tolerance.

EZ Mines is a chill box style SMP server where the whole idea is grinding and climbing your way up. There is a main world called the spiral and you mine and fight your way higher and higher until you reach the Void. It feels really focused on steady progress and getting stronger gear.
The server has a big Jurassic Event that is all about dinos. In the Jurassic world you can mine blocks and kill mobs for drops. If you keep grinding you can get special Jurassic gear and Fortune Armor that goes all the way up to Fortune 10. It sounds like a long grind but it is meant to feel really worth it when you finally get max gear.
There is also a Christmas Event coming soon. It works kind of like the Jurassic Event but with a holiday twist. You have a small chance to get presents that you can open for different goodies. You also get to fight winter themed mobs like Gingy and the Grinch.
The server is looking for more players and also looking for active staff members. The vibe feels friendly and focused on events and grinding so if you like long term goals and custom events this server seems like a fun place to join.

Headrest SMP is a whitelisted survival world that is running a testing season right now. I saw it and it really feels like a mix of lore roleplay and pvp battles.
Everyone plays on an smp style server and the main focus is telling stories with your character. There is also pvp like lifesteal servers so it is not just peaceful building all the time. People will fight and make alliances and betray each other while the lore grows.
They are aiming for around 30 members so it is not super crowded. The minimum age to apply is 16 plus so the players are a bit older and they want people who are actually dedicated to play and not just join for one day.

Esoteric SMP is a Java roleplay server that uses the Origins mod and feels like a dark fantasy story.
The world has a Victorian and medieval style and it focuses on myths and creepy creatures. You can pick things like vampire incubus plague victim arachnae fae pixie revenant moon elf phantom banshee siren yeti gorgon goblin feline dwarf valkyrie wood elf alfiq ogre or you can just be a human.
The modpack is pretty light. It has stuff like Medieval Origins Terralith proximity chat Farmers Delight and some other mods. The server is roleplay first and gameplay second so people are there mainly to act out their characters and tell a long story together.
The server is planned for around 15 to 30 players so it should feel close and not super crowded. It is meant to be long term and it will properly start when there are enough players to keep the story going.
Everyone has to be 18 or older so the community can stay safe and comfortable. If you like story based SMPs and want to write a slow burn tale with other people this server fits that really well.
