I found a new Java SMP that is vanilla and meant to be small and chill.
The main rule is no griefing so it feels more relaxed and friendly for people who just want to play.

BackToBlocks feels like plain survival with just a few helpful extras. It stays close to vanilla and it works for both Java and Bedrock players.
The spawn is built by the community and the server runs events. There is a Nether Hub and the End Island is decorated too.
Players use a Shopping District for trading and the vibe is more about building and hanging out. You get light commands like sethome and tpa and there is also itemflip if you want to gamble items for fun.

LoungeSMP is a chill survival server that is built for the long run. The world never resets so your builds and progress stay and you can play at your own pace.

BareBonesMP is a semi vanilla Minecraft community that started back in 2019 and it is built around a whitelisted close knit group. People say it feels like a hermit style server where players build big and stick around.
The world just got a fresh reset on 3 6 2026 so it is a good time to join in and start from zero. They run events every weekend and they also do mayor elections every month so the community stays involved.
Gameplay stays mostly vanilla but there are quality of life plugins like 50 percent sleep statistic leaderboards player and mob heads and armor stand tools. The server is hosted on a dedicated machine with a focus on no lag plus there is an optional proximity voice chat and cross chat between Discord and in game.
