This is a server that really feels like it is made by the players. It is called All Outta Blocks and it is an 18 plus Java only whitelist SMP. When I joined I noticed the server is focused on a Hermitcraft style survival world with people building together and trading.
The community is pretty active. There can be around 5 to 20 people on in a day and there are about 80 players in the community. It feels like most people know each other and they like to talk and work on projects.
The world is mostly vanilla and they try to keep the normal Minecraft feeling. They only add plugins that are cosmetic or quality of life or just for fun. The players can suggest plugins and they vote on them as a community. So the server changes only when the players want it to.
There is a diamond based economy with a shopping district. People build shops and buy stuff using diamonds. There are also public builds and big projects that anyone can help with.
One of the coolest things is proximity chat. Most players use it and it makes the world feel alive because you can hear people when you get close to them in game. It really fits the community centered style of the server.
The server is for adults only so you have to be 18 or older and you have to get whitelisted before you can play.

This is nLnR also called No Laws No Rules and it is a real anarchy server. There are no rules at all and players can do anything they want. Hack clients are allowed. Griefing is allowed. PvP is everywhere.
The server feels rough and crazy. Spawn used to be a village but now it is totally destroyed and looks like a wasteland. If you join you should run far away from spawn. The farther you go the safer you will be from other players.
The recommended version is 1.12.2 and it is only for premium accounts so you need to actually own the game to play. You can still join on newer or older versions too.
If you want a place where nobody will protect you and there are no safe zones this server is made for that. It is just pure anarchy and survival against everyone.

This server is called PlainSMP and it is starting Season 2 right now. I think it is for people who just like simple Minecraft and want to play with others without a lot of crazy stuff.
It is pure vanilla survival on Java 1.21.11 and they do not use pay to win or a bunch of random plugins. The whole point is to just play survival and enjoy the normal game together.
They are a small group but they sound really passionate and they want new players who actually like playing Minecraft a lot. People are encouraged to use proximity voice chat if they want to talk in game and hang out.
For Season 2 they changed things so now PvP between players is allowed. They want it to feel more like real survival and not just a super safe community world like last season.
You have to apply to get whitelisted and the applications are done through their Discord.

RuneHeim is a full MMORPG style Minecraft server that feels a lot like old school RuneScape but inside Minecraft. It is built by one person and almost everything is custom so it does not feel like a normal survival world.
There are over 400 custom items and more than 300 custom recipes so you always have something new to make and collect. The world has more than 1,000 hand built points of interest so exploring is actually fun and not just the same terrain over and over.
The server has fully open world RPG progression. You just go out into the world and start getting stronger by doing stuff instead of being stuck in one small area. There are quests 3D mobs mounts and other core RPG systems that make it feel like a real online RPG.
There are live hiscores so competitive players can flex their stats. The server has both US and EU regions so your ping should be decent if you are near those areas.
Almost all of the code was made from scratch by the solo dev so the whole thing feels super unique compared to normal plugins you see everywhere.

This server is called Bone Voyage SMP RPG and it is working on a big Fishermans Guild update. The owners showed off a bunch of custom fish and crafting items that they are making for the fishing system.
Right now they already have custom fish like anglerfish shark squid clam clownfish and jellyfish. Some of them even have different cool variants. There is also a full tier system for fishing loot with legendary epic rare uncommon common and junk so what you catch matters a lot.
They are adding special crafting drops too like anglerfish bulbs clamshells shark teeth shark fins and jellyfish jelly. These will be used for new gear food and other items like armor necklaces soup and lanterns. Most of this is still in development and not fully available yet except the shark and its recipes.
The server feels like an RPG style survival world with a big focus on custom fishing content and expanding it over time. They are planning more fish materials roaming 3D fish and better fishing rods so the whole fishing side of the server will keep growing.

SMPPixel is a survival server that is part of a new network. Right now it is the main world but more servers are being worked on.
The server has a really nice looking spawn. There are special commands like magic and clickright that give you different fun systems to mess with when you first join.
If you want an easier start they also use codes that you can find in their community. It feels like they want new players to have a smooth early game and then get into survival and pvp once you are ready.
